Dr. Rebecca Culshaw Smith, a mathematician who earned a PhD while studying HIV, has written the very first book to detail one of the most consequential stories about AIDS ever since And the Band Played On. 26,000 plaintiffs are now part of a major class action lawsuit against Gilead for unknowingly being given a very toxic form of antiretroviral/anti-HIV medication tenofovir. Prescribed to both HIV-positive, as well as healthy, HIV-negative people as PrEP--the most common adverse effects are kidney disease, bone density disorder, and tooth loss. The size of the Gilead lawsuits is staggering, on the order of those for Thalidomide, Vioxx and Phen-Fen.

Dr. Rebecca Culshaw Smith's diligent investigative reporting on this issue has begun to raise awareness about the plight of the Truvada victims. Here are just three of their stories.

One man was 26 when he started taking Truvada. By age thirty, he suffered bone necrosis and bone loss so severe that he needed to have both hips replaced. He suffered a great deal of pain after each surgery.

Another male plaintiff in the class action suit, said he has lost 17 teeth in just three years due to the drug. The 52 year-old real estate agent from Marin took TDF for 12 years and was never made aware of its potential side effects. He reported, "I learned how to smile without opening my mouth, how to speak without showing my teeth. This had an entire impact on my life, my self-security, my self-esteem, but also on my finances."

A woman who is a plaintiff was diagnosed with HIV in 1986, and she began taking Truvada as soon as the drug hit the market in 2004.By 2009, she experienced severe pain in her hips and loss of balance. In 2010, she had to use a wheelchair after her hips failed. She had two hip replacement surgeries in 2011 and suffered complications during the second surgery. She had to go to the Intensive Care Unit for a blood transfusion and did not regain consciousness until hospital staff ran electricity through her body seven times.

These disturbing stories are just the tip of the 26,000-patient iceberg. They also may be an early warning about the dangers of PrEP which is now being promoted to millions of people all over the world.

Are you wondering why these stories haven't been front-page news? That's due to the efforts of powerful AIDS activist organizations to suppress advertising and/or reporting about the lawsuits against their pet pharmaceutical, particularly on Facebook. This collection contains Dr. Rebecca Culshaw’s groundbreaking reporting on the deceitful efforts of AIDS activist organizations claiming to defend victims but actually advocating censorship of ads and news about tenofovir’s vicious side effects and the lawsuits threatening Gilead Sciences.

Dr. Rebecca Culshaw Smith has broken the silence. Hopefully, the media will begin paying close attention to a tragic story that could change the whole face of the AIDS epidemic.
