Benjamin Reese and his war dog, Zeke, return home to the USA. Both have been severely injured in Afghanistan by an IED. In addition to their physical injuries, both suffer from PTSD.
Instead of the peace and quiet needed for dealing with the physical and emotional trauma of war, Ben and Zeke become involved when they discover the body of a murdered teenage girl while on their daily walk.
While Ben and Zeke have the closest relationship a man can have with his dog, gradually they discover the ability to read each other's minds.
