For thousands of years legends of the land of Tagzig and the city of Olmolungring have fascinated and inspired millions with tales of a mystical realm, known in our modern age as Shambhala.

Scholars believe that Olmolungring is the historical precursor of a fabled land described in the oldest Sanskrit texts, a hidden kingdom of incredible beauty, a place of ultimate tranquility and happiness. The ancient pre-Buddhist B’on treaties regarding Olmolungring are thought to be the earliest extant references, but the same mythical realm is represented in diverse ancient traditions: Hindu texts related to the Kalki mythology, the Puranas, and extensively discussed in the ancient texts of the Kalachakra Laghutantra and the earlier Kalachakra Mulatantra.

The legends relate that, in the beginning of this world, Olmolungring was the place to which celestial beings descended and created the sacred hidden realm. They brought with them the highest mystical knowledge of all the worlds, making Olmolungring not only a place of peace and bliss, but the sanctuary of all wisdom, the true center of the spiritual world.

In a treatise composed by an early Tibetan Buddhist, the Third Panchen Lama, said to have been received in a vision sent by the Buddha Sakyamuni, the hidden realm is called, in Tibetan,Shambhala I lam-yig, and the celestial beings Ri-iha-mo.

In the 1970s, while on an extended trek in the Himalayan Range, the author chanced upon an exceedingly remote village deep in the mountains, a community called Siddhalaya. This discovery marked the beginning of a series of remarkable adventures and experiences.

In this riveting first-hand account, the author discloses two encounters he and his companions had with a true Ri-iha-mo, a 'mountain goddess.' During their second encounter, the Ri-iha-mo, who referred to herself as Aani, consented to reveal profound knowledge, and with disarming candor. And so it became for them, and for those not encumbered with certainty, that the existence of a Ri-iha-mo is a reality, as is the legendary world of Olmolungringin in which they live.
