In an era of genetic engineering, Lieutenant Henry Gallant is the only Natural (non-genetically enhanced) officer left in the fleet. In spite of his superiors’ concerns that he is not up to the challenge, his unique mental abilities have proven essential to the defense of the United Planets in its fight against the Titan invaders.
Serving on the first FTL prototype, the Intrepid, on its maiden voyage to Tau-Ceti, Gallant finds a lost human colony on the planet Elysium. Elysium’s leader, Cyrus Wolfe, has allied himself with an ancient Artificial Intelligence which had lain dormant on the planet for millennia, but is now willing to protect the colonists against the Titans.
Gallant allies himself with Alaina Hepburn, the leader of the democratic opposition. With Alaina’s help, he discovers that the ancient AI has a sinister ulterior motive and he must match his exceptional mind against the complexity of machine intelligence to escape the ultimate trap and prevent the extermination of humanity.
In Lieutenant Henry Gallant, one man pits the naked human mind against the perspicacity of machine intelligence.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"I love this book. It was truly an amazing story. The author put humor, despair, and everything you can imagine in it and made a wonderful, exciting love story on top of it. She is a wonderful author and I feel so blessed to have read it. Read the biography at the end. She is funny and I can relate to everything she said." ~ Gail Hodges, avp *****
"I loved the parts that let imagination take over. Few authors really get it... that sometimes what isn't said or described in exaggerated detail.. make what is written all the more enjoyable. keep up the great work, Jackie." ~ Amazon Customer, avp

"All aspiring authors need to read this book or books by this author. You've got intrigue and mystery, romance and friendships -- all without graphic sex or foul language. I've got an imagination and prefer to use it over reading someone else's descriptions of what sex is all about. Jackie Weger, you're a great author and I can't wait to read more of your books!" ~ Chinamom0608, avp
From the Author
Dear Reader; The first thing I want to say is thank you for all of the wonderful comments and reviews. The next thing is: I write books and create characters so I don't have to write about myself. I am as ordinary as toast. I probably stand in line behind you at Walmart or the grocery store. Somehow when gifts were handed out at birth I was given this gift of words. I dang sure didn't get beauty. I didn't even know I had a gift until was in my forties and learned to type. Before that I was busy raising my kids. Once they were out on their own I managed to write a couple of books. Then the kids started coming home again. HUH? I had no earthly idea I'd have to raise those creatures twice. Well, we're mothers. Nothing for it, but to get it done--not that they think I did a better job second time around, but they are all into their own lives now and I have time to sit at a keyboard, keep a small garden in the summer, bird watch, and collect feral cats. I get invited to birthday parties, graduations and weddings. I go. I get invited to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. I decline--because who do you think gets stuck in the kitchen with all of those pots and pans? Anyway... life has kind of smoothed out and I'm enjoying it. I appreciate your interest in my books. If you visit my Amazon Author page you will find links to my Facebook page... Stop in and say hello. I'm glad to hear from you. Best to you and yours, from Jackie Weger
