BLOG POST > #FEATURED #KINDLE #BOOK ● ▸▸▸Lord of War (Parthian Chronicles Book 11 by Peter Darman

You want peace and a happy retirement, Pacorus?
The only way to ensure both is to eradicate your enemies before they have a chance to mobilise.
So, are you a warlord or farmer?
Pacorus and Gallia have survived their time of trial in Media and have returned to Dura, intent on no longer fighting Parthia’s wars. And it just so happens that the empire is at peace. In the east, Satrap Kewab, a son of Dura, has fought the Kushans to a standstill, and in the west relations between King of Kings Phraates and the Roman leader Octavian are never better. A relieved Pacorus turns his attention to irrigation and farming, happy to leave the matter of the return to Rome of the eagles he captured at Carrhae to Phraates, the scheming, untrustworthy high king.
But there are other seeds that have been planted aside from the ones placed in Dura’s now fertile soil, and soon rumblings of conflict are heard in the north. While Pacorus thinks of peaceful prosperity, others brood and want vengeance, and have no qualms about dragging Parthia’s most famous warlord into fresh bloodshed. Soon, Pacorus is leading Dura’s army once more to war, in a conflict that will see him win his greatest victory, while suffering painful personal loss.
‘Lord of War’ is the eleventh volume in the Parthian Chronicles series and follows on from ‘The Slave King’. An updated map of the Parthian Empire in the 1st century BC can be found on the maps page of my website: www.peterdarman.com.

When androids dream of murder…

“After the ending of The Darknet I couldn’t grab The Invisible Mind fast enough…I love this series…”  – J.D. Bronder Book Reviews (5 of 5 Stars)

“M.T. Bass melds the characters into a macabre tale of murder and mayhem confounded with artificial intelligence…skillfully crafted to keep you entertained and guessing.”  – Rosepoint Publishing Reviews (4½ of 5 Stars)

“M.T. Bass kept me on edge the entire way. I can’t compare it to anything else.”  – Frank Frission Reviews (5 of 5 Stars)

Now unleashed, the “Baron” is resurrecting history’s notorious serial killers, giving them a second life in the bodies of hacked and reprogrammed Personal Assistant Androids, then turning them loose to terrorize the city. While detectives Jake and Maddie of the police department’s Artificial Crimes Unit scramble to stop the carnage with the Baron’s arrest, the cyberpunk head of the Counter IT Section, Q, struggles to de-encrypt his mad scheme to infect world data centers with a virus that represents a collective cyber unconsciousness of evil.

"It might not make sense, but the beloved Media tags it 'Murder by Munchausen.' For a price, there are hackers out there who will reprogram a synthoid to do your dirty work. The bad news: no fingerprints or DNA left at the crime scene. The good news—at least for us—is that they’re like missiles: once they hit their target, they’re usually as harmless as empty brass. The trick is to get them before they melt down their core OS data, so you can get the unit into forensics for analysis and, hopefully, an arrest." [excerpt from Murder by Munchausen]

After twenty-six years in the fire service, author Kennedy Seagrave came to realize that many of the tactics used in firefighting could be helpful in fighting metaphorical fires in everyday life as well. Now she seeks to share the wisdom she gained over the years, while telling her story along the way.

Backfire provides a series of practical strategies and problem-solving approaches that can be applied to anyones life, in a wide variety of circumstances. For example, small decisions made correctly can make a tremendous difference in life. Identifying the significance of choices is also essential. Embracing a size-up outlook in life can help you to disregard the often overpowering distractions and evaluate the situation before you make a decisionwhether its entering a burning building to save a life or deciding which college to attend. From the initial sizing up of the situation to the postincident analysis, each step offers methods for dealing with the difficult situations in life based in the techniques used by firefighters every day.

Based on the personal narrative and knowledge of a firefighter with more than two decades of experience, this self-help guide presents problem-solving strategies for all people.

In Book One, young Horace Mayberry an inexperienced somewhat dreamy, introvert Londoner and blind since his early teens, was fitted with bionic eyes by scientist Professor Freeman, using advanced nanotechnology. They are inherently intelligent, but controlled by his brain to develop new facilities as different stress conditions dictate. After extensive training, he was recruited into a secret government department and accompanied by an experienced extrovert agent, he embarked on a series of adventures, and unusual missions.
As his confidence and abilities grew, his dreams reflected the way his character and personality also developed. He learnt how to cope with all kinds of situations, including computer hacking, meeting a girl friend, and being abducted more than once by the members of a sinister international terrorist organisation after the secrets of the laboratory that developed the bionic eyes.

In this first sequel, Horace discovers that his nanotronic eyes can give him even more amazing abilities when he needs them, especially as five secret weapons developed by Professor Freeman in his laboratory, have been stolen, and he is the only agent with the ability to interact with them.

The action takes place all over Europe, but especially in Scotland, France and Austria where the terrorists have hideouts. It includes helicopter chases, a missile attack, bomb disposal techniques, using a drone, abductions, and several new uses of the nanophytes in Horace's new eyes.

In between the various missions to retrieve each weapon, his personality and the relationship with his girlfriend Janet further develop, His dreams become even more vivid and reflect his varied experiences in learning to be an efficient government secret agent.

He is accompanied in his new adventures by his mentor, Aubrey Jackson, with the help of a new member of the team, Harry Jenkins, who originally helped train him, plus the VPHQ ingenious technician Sergeant Daniels.

You know three things, Pacorus:
Your ‘army’ totals only one hundred men and one hundred women.
No help is coming.
The gods are unreliable allies.

Pacorus looks forward to enjoying a permanent cessation of hostilities. But the gods abhor peace and so to amuse themselves they lure the King and Queen of Dura to Media to face daunting odds against a mighty foe. Can Pacorus save the new King of Media, prevent Spartacus from unleashing death and destruction on Armenia, and preserve the peace between Parthia and Rome?
